What We Value

Community

As Jesus modeled so well, time devoted to serving others and building community is an essential element of the Christian lifestyle. Community is a core value of The Encounter church family. We have discovered true community is built on acts of intentionality, vulnerability and creativity. Community provides a safe place for shared purposes, interests and passions. Deeper relationships and connections open the door to sharing our struggles, hopes, and needs with those we have come to know and trust.

Giving

Jesus gave up His Heavenly throne, to live among us and then gave Himself away for us. As Christ Followers, we believe we are also called to share our time, our presence and our blessings to others.

Giving our time:

In our time poor culture, one of the greatest gifts we can share with others is our time. We strive to share our time by investing it in other’s lives and serving in our community.

Giving our presence:

Our world is a busy one with many distractions. The Encounter is dedicated to giving our distraction-free presence to each other. To slow down, listen, respond, celebrate, mourn and grow together.

Giving our blessings:

Our blessings are meant to be enjoyed and shared with others. We believe The Encounter has been called to live out a lifestyle of generosity by sharing our resources and financially supporting Kingdom-dedicated ministries, non-profit help organizations serving our community and beyond, and supporting families and individuals in need including Forward Edge International, The Union Gospel Mission, Compassion to Action, The American Red Cross, The Good Neighbor Center, Activate Church Food Pantry, Shadowbrook Community Angels, The Urban League of Portland, Teach a Kid to Read, Save the Storks, and the Christmas Family Adoption Foundation.
